a recent comment string got me thinking... would anybody be interested in an event somewhere on the shores of Maine that has a similar feel to the "Annual Freeze Up" only, not a freeze up. it would be a group of people who just want to get together, talk, have fun, and fish a little for striped bass sometime in the summer.
anybody who has any thoughts or concerns, shout em' out. maybe we could make this a happening thing!
I swear the fish was THIS BIG!

we use to do it, i think three years in a row but with less fish we had less people and I got to busy guiding and couldn't fit it in but I think it is a great idea

we use to camp for a couple of days, I would think June when there is a lot of fish around ?

I thought those get togethers were great, made greater by having stripers around to catch!
Considering the price of gas, a camping get together makes more sense than just driving down for a few hours of hopefully hitting fish. I'll make it if I can; would look forward to it, but it depends on how my back is - some days I can barely stand for more than 15 minutes unless I have lots of pain killers. .

Sorry to hear of the back Joe. I got serious pain killers for my bum knee if you need any. :)

That is the ideal area because if stripers are going to get to Maine, they get there first and for the longest time. The first year we camped at a campground in Cape Nedick (just blocks from Eldredge Bros), the next it was further north near the lighthouse but not as close to the beach -- can't remember where the other was -- getting old! Before Father's Day was the general best date to get the best turn out.

im thinking maybe the mousam river estuary/outlet/parson's beach in kennebunk. ive fished there a few times and seen some fish. plus its keeping in tradition of the get together fishing outings being at the mousam.

Parsons is a decent choice for the area, depending on how many fishermen (and women) we are talking..... just plan on carpooling as parking is very, very limited.
I've taken most of the last two years off from fishing for personal reasons but hope to get back into it as time permits this year. PM me if you like.... I can help you with ideas for locations to camp and to actually fish.

Kevin- think Jim would help organize another float if we see numbers in May?

Thinking the weekend of the 16th might work for me. I make the schedule at work but need to check on other guys vacation time. Anybody else feel this weekend could work? Depending on Wife and kids might try a couple days up North then come down for this.

Thanks for bring this up, sounds like a great idea. If you ask Jim at EBFS he might be able to recommend dates and possible location(s) then the organizing starts.

Parson's hasn't been the most productive the past few years, also the parking is limited and can fill up very quickly. Ogunquit has been very good the past couple years, and there is plenty of parking in the main beach lot, but it does cost some money from 8am-5pm. Generally speaking the beach, river mouth, and lower section of the estuary fish very well from 2 hours before low til 2 hours after low. There are a few sandbars further north on the beach towards Moody that fish well on a mid-tide to high tide. The marginal way offers access to some good rocks to fish off as well. Given the tides, and usual arrival date of fish, if we are looking to do this in May I would recommend Sat. 19th -Sun 20th. Tides are decent for an early morning fish in the mouth, morning fish into the estuary, mid day in the surf or off the rocks of the marginal way, and evening in the mouth again. If anybody is die hard like me and wants to fish the night, I've got some very productive spots nearby for that as well. Cape Neddick/OGT is my stomping grounds, so any advice or help I can offer let me know. It'd be nice to fish with some more fly anglers here, as usually its just one or two of us and then a bunch of bait chuckers
