Hello, new to the forums. Sure is a great tool to learn and discuss. Have a question I wouldn't mind getting some feedback on. I have a Beans Silver Ghost 6 wt switch. Will be, in the near future, using the Rio 5/6 or 6/7 switch line, not sure which. Want to start getting myself familiar with it like yesterday. Would an 8wt floating bass line be a good temporary line fix or would 9wt be better. Appreciate any kind of help or feedback. Thanks

There are others on here that could surely offer more info than I, but the short answer is that you will be far better off going with the 6/7 switch line. As a general rule of thumb, if you are a less experienced two handed caster, or have a more relaxed stroke with a faster rod, it's better to go on the upper side of the grain window than the lower.

As for using heavier lines meant for single hand rods, can you use them? Sure, as long you're planning to do mostly overhead casting. They won't be all that fun for "spey" casting since the grain weights, head lengths, and tapers don't really match up for creating casts with a sustained anchor. You can obviously do it if needed, but the timing, stroke, distance, and turnover will likely be far off from what you could expect from a properly matched line. Of the two single hand floaters you mentioned, I would probably opt for the 8wt bass line since it presumably has a thicker/shorter head. The taper will still be off, so I wouldn't expect any kind of great distance or turnover.

I have casted the silverghost in 6 wt with a rio 6/7 switch and it casts fine, I would suggest that line, you can overhand cast it like you would a single hand rod with an agressive shooting head, but yet do some switch/skagit casting with the line also.
