Maine state fly... what is your choice?

I was thinking that most states have an official gem, bird, tree, etc. I don't think any states have an official fly.
What should Maine have as their official fly? Parmachene Belle, McKay Special, Kennebago Wulff, Gray Ghost?
I think it's time has come. We need a state fly.
When we get a new governor, maybe we can get this idea passed.

Funny that Parmachene Belle should be first on your list. It was the first thing that sprang to my mind, as it incorporates a legendary place name and was once perhaps the most widely used brook trout fly in the state, if my father's experiences are any kind of guide. The best thing about it would be driving guys like Dave M nuts with the choice.

I agree I like to use the parmacheene Belle as opposed to the grey Ghost myself. But I would think the Grey Ghost is the most famous streamer of all time and still the most used. It also was designed in maine.
As far as the belle, the folks at Bosebuck have developed there own fly for that area. I can say there fly and my own Parmacheene Lightning are my favorite flies for that area.

Kevin, I'd hate to break it to you, but no it isn't. Most fly fisherman I've met outside of New England have far less of a tradition using streamers and the Grey Ghost, while ubiquitous in Maine is scarcely known West of the Mississippi or south of the Mason Dixon line. Don't feel too bad though, it's not just the Grey Ghost, streamers in general get little attention beyond the Wooly Bugger in most parts of the country. Most people out west wouldn't know a Warden's Worry from a Mickey Finn.
Still, I can't think of a fly that is more quintessentially a Maine fly than the Grey Ghost so it has my vote.
