I usually do but the last couple years I have gone to NY and the Keys ,so I haven't had to get out on April 1st but might be different this year, I don't think I am heading south :( but you never know ;)

The light staying longer and 30 degree days means it coming soon B)

Since returning to Maine in 2006 I've taken the day off and gone out opening day each year regardless of the weather and I will this year also. Last year was quite overcast and cold.

i used to, and for quite a few years that meant a midnight start to the season, but now living on a year round river I'm more likely to fish throughout the winter and don't worry too much if I don't get out opening day.

4/1 is a very busy class day for me, pretty much straight classes fom 10am to 9pm

BUT I wont miss the second for anything. Maybe I'll have more water to myself!!

How do the fish bite in the beginning of the season? is it still usually too cold?

You mean you don't want to fish in 30 to 40 degree day at the Lockes and battle for a spot, get your line tangled with the worm chuckers, and have about a 5% chance of catching a fish? What's wrong with you?  :P

In nearly 40 opening days I've caught exactly two(2) fish. 1987 opening day got to eighty degrees, remember that? I caught a 3 1/2 pound brook trout off the beach at Sebago state park. Then I think it was 1998 i caught a four pound salmon at the locks.Thats it.I believe I'll just stay home.

Won't be going on the 1st, but will probably go the 3rd to try out the new waders/boots I picked up over the winter.

I'll be on fresh water somewhere April 1st. Then again, I fish the rivers that are open all winter long, usually average a fish or two an outing. The fishing is slow, and you usually lose the feeling in your fingers at some point during the outing  but it beats the heck out of staying home :)
