Woke the dog up at 4am sunday morning to go chase some salmon around a local lake. conditions where perfect no wind and full sun. caught a nice 20 in salmon on a streamer right off the start. jumped over my other line several time after the 30 minutes it took me to un hook the fish (that i didt get a picture of) and untagle my line i was ready to fish again!
I trolled around the lake 5 hours not a bite then heading back i caught this 20 in Smalie on a rapala. and this salmon on a live smelt. nice salmon for central maine!

Then i got home just in time to make it to the river down the road for some stockies. did a little fly fishing, wasnt much fly action happening. so i switched over to a small spoon caught a small Rainbow, then a brown on my first two cast. the action died down and i saw several rises so i went back to a fly. casted an Elk hair caddis several times and caught a nicer rainbow.

went back to the same spot monday night also with an almost exact repeat of the night before

Today it was raining to much to go to work so i went fishing. decided to go back trolling for salmon. it was very slow after 2 hours i started heading back. I hooked into a huge salmon on a tandom streamer fought the fish the best i could but my hands where so cold i couldnt get it in. jumped several times and lost it right at the boat. looked to be about 22" (But you know how that go's)

I will be back to get him sat. (if not before)

I used troll all the time with my dad, always found it boring but looking back now, I really had a lot of fun hanging with him. Now if I could get him away from that Harley ;) to go fishing.

i do a fair amount of trolling in early spring, it can be very productive as most years the streams are still cold and high. Nothing wrong with rolling streamers for fish that are usually measured in pounds. I get usually get a good 20" salmon every year, which usually consists of sweet reel music and some nice aerials. i know some people dont consider it real fly fishing, but using my own streamers on a sinking line is good enough for me.

That said, by May its nice to hit the rivers and do some "real" fly fishing.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day....teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
