After attending Mal's "Newbie Day" I had a thought that the same type of event would be beneficial to flyfishing beginners.

Here is a basic plan:

One day classroom and casting focusing on equipment set-up, safety, fly selection, reading water, and basic casting.

One day on the water.

I have a facility for the "classroom day", and the "Sump" would seem to be a perfect place to have the "on the water day".

Any interest in either teaching or learning?

The venue I have for the classroom work is in New Gloucester. And the "Sump" is in Windham silly rabbit.
"Maniac" and "Water Rat"; You both would be great assets to this project so, if you can get together on a date we'll just set that as the date and that will be it.
I was thinking each day would run 3-5hrs. say 10a.m.-3p.m.

Idk if I'd consider myself a newbie but I'm sure there's a thing or two to be learned.. Pretty busy this summer though, I'll keep an eye on this thread and try to get there =D

If you ever get stuck without enough teaching bodies for a single day....Stick, give me a PM...I can come off the bench.

Last weekend in July looks good for me at this point. I'd rather start early and bang it all out in one day. I think it would be very doable, probably classroom 8-12, working lunch, then hit the water in the afternoon and hope for a mid afternoon or early evening hatch.

I'm thinking.
Thanks to everyone.

p.s.. One new thought I had was that rather than having One classroom session, it might be more loose to have those who are teaching have a table with their expertise listed on a placard, and have those who are there to learn, choose what they want to learn more about, or maybe even help teach.
For example: One may be experienced in all aspects of flyfishing but, be passionate about one or more disciplines; i.e., leader building, fly tying, fishing streamers, fishing the salt, nymphing, wading,etc..

Another thing; Since I brought the subject up, I feel responsible to follow through and organize this event.
If anyone wants to take the reigns, speak up now.

I am open to either but Dave (Water Rat) may be correct that you'd get more participation for a single day event. ;)

Things are shaping up.
I'm working on some details with the owners of the classroom facility and should have it locked in within a week or so.
I will repost this topic around July 1st. with all the details.
If no one else wants to take this over, it will remain a 2 day event. Sat. July 28th, Sun. July 29th.
Sat. will be a station type format with teachers being set up at tables to answer questions and teach casting, with on the water casting in the afternoon.
Sun. will be an all on the water day with teacher(s) available.
This will be a casual affair, free, and open to everyone.
Vendors are welcome (Bring your own tables) and if anyone has flyfishing related items to sell, bring them (again, if setting up to sell, bring you own table)
Those who choose to volunteer are not required to commit to 2 days.
Thanks to all. Spread the word.

I would like to attend, as a sponge, ready to absorb any info that will spill out. I dont consider myself a newbie, But see this as a great opportunity to meet and learn from some fine fisherman.
