Topics I've Started

No fish

16 October 2012 - 08:23 PM

My youngest brother and I took a spur of the moment trip and left the coast for the weekend.   Had a somewhat stressful week so this weekend really calmed me down.

Ran into a couple guys who said "there are no fish here"- or something along those lines.   Well there were fish there- my brother actually caught the one he is pictured with with his hands.   We also ran into two other guys who some of you may know really well- and let me tell you something-  those guys really caught some fish.

Like a freight train

27 June 2012 - 07:10 AM

Standing in the pouring rain, fishing with my brother- without rain jackets. Soaked to the bone but still stoked to be fishing. No action- decided to switch flies. Tied on a black ghost- and whamo!!!

It was an epic fight- if my brother hadn't been there to net it for me I know I wouldn't have landed it.

It was the last fishing trip with my brother- he is leaving maine for a job on the west coast and probably won't be back for a decade or so. We had some great fishing and a great time together.

Graduation

15 May 2012 - 07:13 PM

Graduated from University of Maine saturday with an economics degree- skipped the ceremony and went fishing with my wife. We gave up sitting in an auditorium for three hours listening to the drones and instead got into some really good fishing.

Spent the afternoon casting streamers from the canoe- and had a great time. The fish in the picture is about average-  and some were quite fat and healthy. Between the two of us we caught around a dozen.

Man I love to fish.

Low and Clear

15 May 2012 - 06:30 PM

Low and Clear is showing at the Strand Theatre (main street Rockland) on saturday night at 8pm.  I saw this movie at the Camden Film Festival last fall-  and it blew me away.   It is about fly fishing- but also about so much more- friendship, how friendships can change, and how fishing can sometimes be what holds a friendship together.

This movie is right up there with A River Runs Through It.   Go see it.   You'll be glad you did.   Being a part of the Camden Film Festival every year,  I have seen more documentary films than I like to admit,  and many of them I would never take the time to see again.    Not only will I see Low and Clear again (I'll be there saturday night),  but it's a movie I would own in a heartbeat.

Biggest Maine Salmon Ever?

20 February 2012 - 07:52 AM

Although I love catching any size fish on a fly rod, like most of us I am always hoping for a monster. After hoping to catch said monster for several years, I am wondering how big a monster really is these days. It has been my dream to catch a monster land locked salmon in maine (other places don't count).

So here is the question I am posing to you all- how big is the biggest landlocked salmon you have ever caught in maine? Don't say the place- just the year and the size. It seems that a lot of guys I talk to talk about catching huge salmon years ago, but its been awhile. So I am curious- can't wait to hear from everyone.

Basically, sometimes we all need confirmation that monsters still exist.
