For those us who have fly fished for a while, we realized very early
that, one of the most important things to catching a lot of fish, is in
knowing how and when insects hatch. My first time matching the
hatch was on a small stream in northern Maine. There were mayflies
coming off the water and I couldn't get them to bite but, as soon as I
matched my fly to the size and color of the mayfly, I started to catch
fish. This started my fascination with what fish eat.
We have put together comprehensive information about Maine
hatches and beyond. You will see all the articles that have been
written by Richard Babine, a Master Maine Guide and casting
instructor. I had the pleasure of meeting him several years ago and
offered up the information you will find on the fallowing pages. All
the information is from his experience or his research on each
insect.
I hope you find this part of fly fishing as exciting and informative as I do.
