Book review

Holding Lies and Northwest of Normal
Author, John Larison

Holding Lies and Northwest of Normal by, John Larison, are two must reads in 2012. Northwest of Normal came out in 2009 and Holding Lies came out in 2011. Both of these books are set in steelhead country in Oregon. They both have a set of characters that draw you into their lives. Their misfortunes, love affairs and lost friendships captivate you. This keeps you turning the pages. I truly couldn’t wait until the next time to read these books. I really look forward to more stories by John Larison.

Here is what the cover of Northwest of Normal says about the book:

“Set in a quirky mountain town of Ipsyniho, Oregon-a community of artists, logger, dope growers and river guides- Northwest of Normal is a story of one village reinventing the American dream.”

Here is what the cover of Holding Lies says about the book:

“With Holding Lies, John Larison takes us deep into thriving subculture of the Northwest, one born of ferns and firs, rain and hot-springs, salmon and whitewater. He takes us even deeper into troubles of Hank Hazelton, a fifty-nine-year-old river guide, as he struggles to reconnect with his daughter after a long estrangement.
Before his daughter’s arrival, Hank discovers a drift boat stranded below a rapid, its oar mans missing. With in days, the sheriff has opened a murder investigation.”

Next time you are at your favorite fly shop pick these up; you won’t be disappointed.
