A BackYard in NowWhere

I find I spend most of my off time from guiding and fishing, wishing I was guiding and fishing. So I spend this time watching fly fishing shows and new fly fishing films. I highly enjoy all of them as everyone is unique and highlights talent in their own ways. But there is a film that comes a long every year that really stands out and this year it is A BackYard in NoWhere. Out of all the films I have seen, this one stands out with only a hand full of them. I find I always love all the fish footage but it is more the story and adventure that I really love and this film gives you all of it.
The characters in this film are really what brings the whole thing together. Yes, the film has incredible footage of Alaska and big northern pike and incredible explosions on the fly but, that is not what has made me watch this several times and show my buddies.
Each time I watch it I find I have missed something. There seems to be a lot going on in the 52 minutes it takes to show you traveling half way around the world to finding their way up the Innoko River into the Back Yard of some of the local natives and the outfitter who thinks this all belongs to them. You will see a conflict arise and see how these fly fishermen have put themselves right into the middle of the craziness. There are gun shots, a killing, a naked man and big giant northern pike!
I will tell you this is not a kid friendly movie. It is the only R rated fishing film I know of and you will soon see why but, I don’t think it would be this film without the people and the adventure they show you. It is a true fly fishing western from the narration, conflict, gun fights and the raw wilderness.
When I am sitting around drinking some beers this winter with my fly fishing buddies or have a group together to tie flies, this will be the first film I put in and I guarantee all eyes with be on the screen.
