Plane goes through the ice

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have insights on why there is a warden's plane through the ice on Eagle Lake?  Hopefully. perhaps, maybe its not a Warden;s plane??  Rumors are flying that it is....Was it plane failure??  I'm wondering because  they just gave an all points...Don't go on the ice...It cannot be a Warden's plane right??

It's on the news.  Fortunately pilot not injured but the warden service could be out a $200k aircraft.

Warden service or tax payers could be out 200,000 dollars?  Why was the plane on the ice.??  We still haven't heard why the Warden plane crashed on Clear Lake a few years back??  Just curious...

Wardens planes often land on the ice to check on licenses and catch limits. Could have been equipment failure as well.

It was an emergency landing from what I heard. The pilot had to land somewhere quick. Eagle lake was tested by wardens as being safe. Just shows how hit or miss ice is this early in the season! Be safe out there guys!

Thanks Kevin

I read the report you provided.  The moron who responded to the bangor newspaper report seemed more concerned about the environmental impact to the lake than the life of the pilot of the plane.

It appears we don't have an official report about the accident and would be jumping to conclusions speculating as to the cause. In todays world the immediacy of information seems of more importance  than factual accounts as to what may or may not have happened.  Why don't we wait and see.  Thank God the pilot walked away from this.

Exactly, Alan.  Those who weren't at the controls of the plane (and that's all of us) shouldn't be judging the pilot.   Whatever lessons can be learned should and will come out in the investigation.   The internet rush to judgment is remarkable - everybody's an expert.

With a single engine aircraft, you always are planning for an engine failure and an emergency landing or a ditching into water. It's often the safer bet to aim for water and try to make it out from there. Taking off heavy weight in the tanker in the middle East, we always decided if we were going down we'd aim for the Med instead of making a landing on an improved surface.
