Black Flies

How bad are the black flies north of Greenville and McKay station?

Over Memorial day Weekend and into the beginning of June they were absolutely horrible, worst in many many years. Don't know how they are now.

Not any worse than ordinary in some areas, but then in some other areas they can be brutal;-)..especially in June.  Their larva's value as a part of the trout and landlock diet, I think, keeps State government at bay...the more insects they and industry have tried to erradicate through spraying the more damage to fish diet and habitat have occured.   Early June seems to be their prime hatching so they're hungry no matter what year.    Hot temps and dragonflies will burn them off somewhat...in areas, but in other areas, protected by the hardwood canopy they remain tough to kill.

Thanks guys. Be heading north next Sunday for five days.

Abut 30 miles north of the Big E

Hopefully the B Flies have lessened somewhat!

Lol the ones at my grandparents area I swear they drink that stuff. They are so thick there it’s horrible. Put bug spray on and I swear they get worse. Smoke a pack of cigarettes in a hour just to hope the smoke holds them back a bit
